Parenting Tips: How to be a work at home mom

"I can't get any writing done because the kids are in my face!"

"I can't surf the net for my cash programs because the kids always want to play a computer game."

"How do I run these transcription projects downtown with three kids in tow?"

These are the dilemmas an increasing number of parents face who work from home. The cost of childcare is prohibitive, especially for more than one child. With more children diagnosed with disorders such as autism and ADHD, parents want to be at home with their special needs children after school.

The Internet is bursting with home based business opportunities and freelance or outsourced work. It seems like a dream: regaining some of the income lost when one parent goes to work but still being able to have a stay at home parent for the kids.

For some parents, however, it seems like a nightmare after a few weeks. Children need attention but the work at home parent needs a few hours each day to work.

Here are some tips, arranged by age group.

Infants and Toddlers

* Take advantage of their earlier bedtimes to get some busy work done in the evenings.

* If your work involves the computer, you CAN learn to type with a toddler on your lap. Keep wandering hands busy with a toy, bottle or sippy cup.

* Children age 2 and up can spend short bursts of time playing near your workspace.

* Keep a few small toys or board books in a desk drawer and use them only for times when you are working so they seem like a novelty

* Join or start a cooperative playgroup in your neighborhood with at least six children where two mothers take all of the children once or twice per week for an hour or hour and a half on a rotating schedule.

Preschoolers, age 3-5

* Clear off a corner of your workspace for your preschooler to color in coloring books or draw pictures on plain paper. Many preschoolers love the idea of "working" along with a parent at their desk.

* Keep a drawer or box near your workspace with books, paper, crayons, colored pencils, clay, or other creative materials

* Keep dry cereal, juice boxes, individual sized packages of graham cracker snacks, goldfish crackers, canned fruit cups, and other nutritious snacks handy so your children can help themselves to their morning and afternoon snack

* Add variety to the day by allowing short videos or TV breaks, and try to place your workspace near a window where you can watch your child play outside in the yard while you work.

School Age 6 and up.

* After school or on weekends have your preteen sit near your workspace and do homework while you work. If you are doing "busy work" where you can work and converse at the same time, use the time to catch up on your child's day.

* If you need a block of uninterrupted time, set up an informal coop arrangement with other neighborhood parents to host playdates or video film festival afternoons on days off from school and reclaim some of the days formerly filled with wails of "I'm bored."

* Set up a housework/special time coop arrangement with your older children. If they complete certain household chores for you, thus freeing up more time for your work, you will spend "special time" with them on a certain activity of their choice: riding bicycles or inline skating, going out for ice cream or sharing an order of french fries, seeing a movie, or anything else they choose for which you are willing to treat them.

With some ingeniuity on your part, and cooperation on your children's part, working at home can work for the whole family.

Vacation tips for mom

Have you ever dreamed of taking a vacation just for yourself? No kids, no husband, no dog? Then you thought of all the reasons you couldn’t, such as money, children or time away from your job? Well throw that kind of thinking right out the door. You can take a vacation just for yourself. You can afford to and you deserve to have some time away.

Two years ago I decided it was time for me to take a personal vacation. I, like most mothers, work forty hours a week at a job, I care for my children, keep a clean house and keep everyone well fed and reasonably happy. So, where in all that would I find time for me? I learned that in order to find time for me I had to make time for me. I needed a vacation and I needed one with out my family. Any mother knows that a family vacation is a vacation for the children and the husband, you as a mother still end up working. Granted it’s not at your workplace but it’s still work. You still have to care for the children, you still have to cook, to do dishes and keep everyone happy. It ends up your more tired from vacation that you would have been had you worked at your job all week. You need to go back to work to rest.

Do I feel selfish, guilty for thinking this way? You bet but, I didn’t let that deter me. I deserve my time. I began planning my vacation after calling a few close friends and telling them my idea. They all excitedly told me that if I could find something cheap enough they would be more than happy to join me.

My first step was to call the local travel agents in my area. Bad idea! They gave me some wonderful vacation packages but all had huge price tags attached. I wanted a small vacation and didn’t want to have to sell my first born to afford it.

Second step, I began looking through the telephone book and calling resorts and hotels in the area I planned on vacationing at. What I found was informative as well as reasonable.

1. If you plan a vacation in off season (non-peak times) the rates are reduced by nearly half the original cost for a suite/room/cabin.

2. Most resorts/hotels have rooms that sleep up to six people, have small kitchenettes and two baths for one flat price. Split this price with several friends and the savings are incredible. What normally you couldn’t afford you now find you can easily afford.

My plan was to arrange a four day mini-vacation for under three hundred dollars. I searched the area I was interested in going to. I had certain criteria that had to be met. I wanted to spend only three hundred dollars for the entire long weekend. I wanted a resort with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a gym. I wanted a location not more that five hours drive from where I lived. I wanted an area with plenty of attractions. After several phone calls I decided on a beautiful resort located near the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I chose the small town of North Conway. The town offered many attractions such as outlet malls, quaint little shops; hiking, biking and walking trails all nestled at the base of the beautiful snowcapped White Mountain Range. I chose off peak time, early spring and got the best rates for lodging. The resort my friends and I stayed at offered all the amenities, swimming pool, sauna, gym and several shops and restaurants on the premise. The entire weekend cost me under my set goal of three hundred dollars and that included some shopping and all meals. We, my friends and I, had such a great time that each year in the spring they now look forward to our annual mini-vacation. This year I think we’ll try the coast. I hear it’s beautiful in the spring.

How to be a better mom: 5 parenting tips

Becoming a mother brings a range of roles that any stage or film actress might envy. Nurse, teacher, administrator, chauffeur, and coach are just some of the many duties a typical mom may have to perform.

But if you are a new mom or someone who is a little confused about the type of parent a mother should be, here are a few basic guidelines that may help you become a more effective mother:

1. Have integrity. From an early age, kids look up to their parents as role models and even heroes. They will learn many of their attitudes, language patterns, and behaviors from observing you. As you go about the daily events of your life, make values-based decisions. Your children need to see you respond to others in a consistent, honorable way. When you treat others with respect, they will too. If you are kind and polite, expect it from the kids as well. Integrity is perhaps the most important quality a parent can model.

2. Set good standards. Expect your kids to try hard at school, to treat authorities with courtesy, and to follow parental guidelines. When you lower the bar or issue contradictory mandates, the kids will become confused and possibly get off track. Clearly explain what you want them to do, and if applicable, tell them why. Start when they are young and they will never know to do anything else until they become teens and are exposed to other ideas and examples.

3. Be fair. Treat all your children in the same manner without favoring one over another. Be consistent in setting rules as well as issuing rewards and punishments. Kids quickly sense hypocrisy or favoritism, so do your best to treat them all the same. Don't say one thing and do another; rather, set the example as far as following the same rules yourself.

4. Have fun with them. Be sure to include time for play in your schedule. From tots to teens, your children love to see Mom laugh, and they are delighted when that laughter includes them. Read together, tell jokes, talk over the school day, wash dishes together, bathe the dog, shoot hoops, take a drive, have a milk shake. As they grow older, plan individual outings with each child to talk over dinner or go bowling, for example. Kids love being part of a family, but they want to know they matter as individuals, too.

5. Honor their father. Perhaps the greatest gift you can give your children is the gift of family security. When they see you kiss Dad or avoid a sharp argument, you reinforce their notion of unconditional love and relational forgiveness. They, in turn, will learn to base their future marriages on similar principles. Even if their father no longer lives in the home due to divorce or death, talk about him courteously, point out his good qualities, and mention the problem behaviors only when you must.

Moms play a pivotal role in children's development. Take time to reflect on your many opportunities to make family life meaningful and fun. Kids grow up quickly, and you won't get a second chance.

Stay At Home Mom's Business Opportunity - Make Money Online

This article talks about how moms can work from home, make more money working from home than working outside of home for someone else. Moms can do all of this and be home for their family. It's a win-win situation for all families
Stay at home moms are finding great success building their own businesses from home. Moms are doing a great service to their children, husbands and themselves. Stay at home moms are becoming financially savvy.

Stay at home moms are coming back in style. Staying home means…More time with children and the ability to get more involved in school and activities, which can become a cornerstone for your child’s social activities and social development.

Stay at home moms are proving they can do more than raise children. Staying at home doesn't mean moms need to miss out on a lucrative business opportunity. Moms are enjoying partnering with their husbands and children and running businesses together. "Mompreneurs" are beginning to flood the marketplace with new products and services.

Jobs with the pressure of deadlines, nasty bosses, inadequate child care, arranging for care for sick kids - that is not only work, it is work with stress piled on top of it.

Mothers and fathers have the most important jobs in our society. Mothers who stay at home can take their children to dancing, to gymnastics, swimming, music, T-ball, scouts and other activities. Mothers can have both financial and family success.

Children generally miss their parents when both are off to work. Childcare, professional clothing, drying cleaning services, restaurant lunches, transportation expenses, and extra taxes may be eating up a large portion of your salary. Children in day care experience higher aggressive behavior, insecure attachment in relationships, higher rates of illness and slower cognitive development than children raised by a full-time, parent who works from home.

Making money from home can offer outstanding potential for a second income, and a large one at that. In a world where it takes two incomes to survive, some moms are working a home-based business and are not only successful, but some make more money from home than their husbands do working away from home.

Stay at home moms are a luxury now, but worth whatever a family has to do or do without to enable them to afford this luxury, but today, moms can have their own home based business and succeed far beyond what a job away from home can offer.

Moms today can work around their families schedule and be at home when their children come home from school. No more "latch key kids." Moms who work from home can monitor what their children do after getting home from school. They can make sure that whatever homework has to be done gets done. Moms are home to fix their family a hot dinner instead of leaving the family to fend for themselves.

Dads too can be home to help with dinner and household chores during the day. They can be more involved at home with the family rather than be involved with the boss at work. It truly is a win-win situation.

Families tend to be closer to one another when there is a parent at home. There is more of an opportunity for family time. It could be during dinner time when everyone can enjoy each others company. Parents can find out what is going on in the lives of their children and vice versa.

Stay at Home Mom Schedule

Hey moms! Are you deciding to be a stay at home mom and want to be free of juggling everything that you do in a day? Then, I am sure you need a stay at home mom schedule, though you might have an amazing and a very helpful husband and kind God to take you out of all the problems that you face every day. But a schedule might give a shape to your day and help you to carry on your responsibilities in a better way. Above all, it is important to avoid stay at home mom depression.

Typical Stay at Home Mom Schedule

A person, looking in the house from outside might find the stay at home experience to be very pleasant and relaxing. Every outsider thinks that moms have all the time in the world to clean the house, prepare food and take care of each member of the family. But one does not know how difficult it is to manage so many things single-handedly and with so much of perfection. I do understand the pains of work at home moms who accomplish their task without mistake. So, to make their days easier and to give a structure to their responsibilities, I have got a stay at home mom schedule. Here is a sample stay at home mom schedule designed according to the usual responsibilities of a mother.

Stay at Home Mom Schedule
7:30am-9:00am Wake up and do your exercises or go to the gym. Get ready for the day and say your prayers. Read the Bible for 20 to 30 minutes to begin your day with peace of mind.
9:00am-10:00am Prepare the breakfast.
10:00am-10:30am Get the kids ready for school or for the day.
10:30am-12:30pm Free time for moms, can do anything like cleaning the house, playing with the kids, run errand or any extra work.
12:30pm-1:00pm It is lunch time! Get ready with the food for the kids.
12:30pm-2:00pm Playtime and home school for preschooler.
2:00pm-4:00pm Small nap time for the kids.
4:00pm-5:00pm Do any recreational activity.
5:00pm-6:00pm Cook dinner.
6:00pm-7:00pm Relish the food with your family.
7:00pm-7:30pm Clean the kitchen.
7:30pm-8:00pm Your time, free time. Can go for a walk, remember God or make preparation for the next day.
8:00pm-8:30pm Get your kids ready for bed. Give bed snack.
8:30pm-9:00pm Quite time for the kids because it is bed time.
9:00pm-11:00pm Spend time with your spouse and or watch T.V. together.

This is a typical stay at home mom schedule, but it might vary according to the additional responsibilities, preferences and priorities of respective mothers. For example, a stay at home mom schedule for toddlers will be slightly different as most of the mom's time is spent running after the child. Apart from this there are certain things that moms must remember while planning the stay at home mom schedule.

Things to Remember
  • Try to be flexible.
  • Do not over schedule.
  • Focus on your priorities.
  • Take out time for yourself.
  • Do not force anything on yourself.
  • Discuss your schedule with your husband.
Apart from these points do not forget to designate a beginning and an end to your day. Try to accomplish the bigger tasks in the beginning of the day so that you do not waste your whole day on one task. Schedule an outing so that you don't find your job to be very boring. Always use a calendar to organize a day. Try and keep clutter to the minimum in order to avoid extra effort to clean them. Go for an outing on weekends to get a change from the daily schedule. Take out time just for yourself everyday and above all do not expect too much from yourself and don't over burden yourself. If you keep these points in mind while sketching your stay at home mom schedule, you will surely make your life more productive and simple to handle. One important thing - Don't let your mind enter into the battle of stay at home moms vs. working moms debate and be proud of what you are doing and you will find it to be an extremely rewarding experience. All the best!!

Prepare to be a stay at home mom: jobs

Picture that black and white world of June Cleaver, the husband returning home from work to a spotless house, dinner waiting and the kids well-behaved and just waiting for the friendly-fatherly advice. Now shake your head and get a reality grip - this isn’t the world of television and you’d be so lucky to have your household like that at the end of day. In this day and age, the stereotypes of TV-land still exist in the minds of many a man (and women). If you are looking to become a stay-at home mom, you need to prepare yourself for what it’ll really be like.Rid yourself of those fantasies or you’ll be heading into disaster. When so many moms are choosing to stay home and raise their children, few are prepared for the mental and emotional strain it can cause. But all is not lost - with the right preparation and organization, you can have that picture-perfect world and more.

The life of a SAHM is truly a world that you need to enter with your eyes wide open. You will be responsible for your child, or children, and be their main influence until they enter school. You will be with them 24/7, monitoring their actions, behaviors, speech - everything will come down on you to set the proper example. There’s no blaming the daycare system or the babysitter - you’re it. There’s no magical maid showing up to clean away the dishes from the morning or the pile of toys scattered through the house from kitchen to the upstairs bathroom. And no, you won’t have time to eat bonbons and read romance novels - you will need to be in control of your household from Day 1 to succeed as a SAHM. Here are a few tips to ease you into this world, but in the end, you need to create your own path.

Be confident in your position - you are a mother and no one can take that away from you. Be an example to your children and teach them right from wrong every day. Your children will need guidance every day in everything they do-be there as a helping hand to their development. You will watch them grow before your eyes in so many ways, and you’ll enjoy their company-even on those days you’re ready to pull your hair out. Understand that as much as you’re adjusting to a new world with them as the center, so they are watching you as their role model in everything from eating to cleaning to talking. Don’t forget or a reminder of a bad day will come back to haunt you unwillingly.

The house is just a matter of organization. You have to learn that housework won’t wait, but if you make yourself a fairly flexible schedule, you won’t be bogged down with a filthy house and chores up to your neck. Utilize also your little helpers - children love to help and learn, and what better way to teach them about maintaining a clean home than to have them help you. Little jobs like sorting laundry, or folding towels are like a game to them, but it teaches them how to be constructive, and tidy. And always make sure they help in the clean up of their own areas. But don’t let housework interfere with small things like playtime with your child - you should always have time for that. Your child is only that young once and dishes can wait an extra half hour while you read stories or do a puppet show.

Remember this is your home and you have to live up to your standards and no one else’s. Don’t try to imitate people’s homes that have no children, or families who’s children are at daycare all week - you’ll be disappointed. Your home is lived in, day in and day out, and it will show. But wear it as a badge of pride, for you have taken on a challenge many couldn’t or wouldn’t. The pay is terrible, and the thanks are few and far between, but it will be rewarding in itself as you watch your child grow and flourish in your care. And classify yourself a household manager, when it comes to job description if asked, because few can manage a home, children, husband and keep their sanity, but if you can, you have manage it all. June Cleaver never had it so good.

Work From Home Internet Marketing Jobs for Moms

Not every mom enjoys being locked out of the workforce because she chooses to stay home and raise her children. One possible solution would be if mom became an internet marketer. It might sound a little bizarre at first. If you investigate it though, you will find that internet marketing is a pretty good fit for most women who really want to work from home.

There are a lot of mothers out there who are really just trying to find some type of employment that would fit into their crazy schedule. When you are in a situation in life where you are stuck at home for one reason or other, it is nearly impossible to find something that fits your skill set as well as the times you have available to do it.

That is why internet marketing is an ideal fit. Internet marketing offers an incredibly flexible schedule. There are no set hours. You can take days off if need be. You act as your own boss. You just have to be able to motivate yourself to actually do some work. After all, the work is what eventually gets you paid. The more work you do, the more money you get paid.

There are numerous different forms of internet marketing jobs. The most common ones involve building websites that sell products or advertising for a specific type of person or specific industry. There is very little if any contact with customers. You basically just do your work and wait to get paid for it. That might make it sound like it is ridiculously simple though. In reality it’s not.

You need to possess good communication skills to be really good at it. I have seen exceptions to this rule, but only one comes to mind. In most cases you have to be able to read and write fluent English. In most cases there is a lot of writing involved also. So it helps if you can type. If you don’t like to write then it is probably not the best way to make money.

When it comes to working from home though, internet marketing has its benefits. You can show up to work in your underwear and nobody ever knows. You don’t have to do your hair or put on any makeup. Pajamas will do just fine. How many jobs can you say that about?

It is not all fun and games though. There really is some hard work involved. For you to be really successful and make it worth your while you will have to apply yourself. You will need to do a lot of reading and be willing to learn how to do things with your computer. You will get a new perspective on the internet and how people use it in various ways. It is a very eye opening experience. I strongly encourage the more ambitious women out there who might read this article to do a little more investigation into the internet marketing world on their own.

You might just find that it is the absolute perfect opportunity that you have been looking for. You will find it hard to come up with reasons not to give it a try.
